U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day reprieve for Mexico from planned tariff hikes, temporarily easing trade tensions between the two countries.

The decision delays the implementation of higher tariffs that Trump had previously threatened, giving Mexico time to meet U.S. demands on trade and border security.

“This is a window of opportunity for Mexico to demonstrate progress,” Trump said, emphasizing that tariffs could still be imposed if agreements are not upheld.

The move comes amid broader negotiations on trade and immigration issues, with both governments seeking to avoid economic disruption while maintaining leverage. Analysts say the reprieve offers temporary relief to businesses reliant on cross-border supply chains but leaves long-term uncertainty intact.

The 90-day delay signals Trump’s willingness to negotiate while keeping tariff threats as a central tool of his trade policy strategy.
